Permalink Easter 2011

It’s Easter time once again. This year we decided to play it low key and stay home. We had a busy weekend planned with it also being Reagan’s birthday. On Saturday we hit our two local egg hunts. As always is was cold but that didn’t stop our hunters. This would be Kayla’s first Easter as a walker so I was especially excited to get her out to the egg hunts. She is really into carrying bags of “stuff” around the house so I figured this would be right up her alley.

As soon as Kayla spotted the field of eggs she was ready to go. I was soon finding it difficult to hold her back until the hunt actually started. Once the whistle blew we were off. I think she found the number of eggs a little overwhelming. She couldn’t decide whether she should pick up every egg in her little circle or roam the field. She really enjoyed watching the other kids pick up their eggs and copying what they did. All in all I think she had a lot of fun.

We have learned from previous years that any regular ole basket wouldn’t do for our first hunt. This place always had a ton of eggs for the kids to chase after and our baskets usually overflowed. This year we played it smart by bringing huge grocery bags along. This made it easier to collect lots of eggs.

This year all three girls were in different age groups for the egg hunt. We opted to stay with Kayla given this was her first time and the big girls were involved in more of a competition. It was best not to disturb them. So here is some video of Kayla at the Egg Hunt with a cameo by Reagan at the end. Sydney’s hunt was over quickly as those kids were out for blood.

Sunday morning the girls awoke to find their Easter baskets filled with goodies. Kayla found her basket hidden on her tiger chair. The Easter bunny got Kayla some of her very own “pretties” which was great because her sisters were getting tired of her breaking theirs.

The weather man predicted snow this morning so the Easter Bunny opted to hide his eggs all over the house. So the kids searched all three floors for hidden bunny surprises. As always the egg hunt was the best part of the day.

Permalink Mount Sanitas

We are starting to get a few glimpses into warmer weather. So Dad thought this was a great opportunity to take his girls for a hike in Boulder. The choice for today would be Mommys’ nemesis, Mount Sanitas. We enjoyed the initial part of the climb playing with all the puppies. There were too many to count. Their owners would stop and let us play with their dog while they expressed constant concern over the fact that our dog looked like he was about to die. Poor Mr. Wyatt hung in there all day but he is definitely showing his age.

Kayla was again rode in style. She was the envy of everyone, including Mommy.

As we were nearing the top we came across a large rock formation. Kayla was now demanding to use her own legs so we unloaded and took a short break.

The big kids took this opportunity to do some rock climbing and as always Kayla had to do whatever the big girls did. She loved climbing her little rocks and was always smiling. This kid is once again an awesome hiker.

We posed for one more shot and continued onward and upward.

Soon we reached the summit. Sydney had to attend to some business so we let Kayla enjoy some summit time. She demanded we have proof of her summit for all you non-believers.

On the way down the kiddos were beginning to tire down. Sydney was having fun passing the time with small trail runs. She took one mis-step and fell down scrapping her knees. She was not alone, Dad also tumbled a couple times and banged up his arm. Yet again a perfect baby today. Kayla is definitely our trooper. A fun family adventure. Yet, Mount Sanitas remains a nemesis in Mom’s book! Until next time.

Permalink Beads

Apparently a few of these can turn any outfit into its own fashion statement.

However, Kayla seems to be going through these necklaces at an alarming rate. She LOVES wearing “pretties” at all times but sometimes her engineering mind gets the best of her and she must figure out how these things are put together. We are left with piles of beads everywhere and two very angry big sisters. Oh well, babies will do what babies want.

Permalink Wyatt’s 10th Birthday

Today was Wyatt’s big birthday so we all went to Wendy’s and got him his very own cheeseburger birthday cake. Sydney and Reagan thought birthday hats would add to the celebration factor of this big moment. Kayla on the other hand thought differently about these paper hats. I think this photo just about sums things up.

Kayla is not to be outdone by her sisters these days. If they can do it. She can too. Check out what she is up to now.

Permalink Spring Break 2011

Today is the last day of our Spring Break. Usually we can be found playing on a beach somewhere warm but this year we decided to stay home and spend a few days at the cabin. Anything to do with the cabin is fun for the girls so while they talked about Mexico a lot, I know they enjoyed themselves. In the rush of getting out of the house I forgot to grab the camera. So no new pics but here are a few random shots of our very own Winter Wonderland taken over the last few months.

We weren’t sure what to expect weather wise for this trip given that it was almost April. We knew there would still be lots of snow up in Leadville, but what we didn’t expect were the two blizzards during the week. The first would occur on our drive up. Not too bad everywhere except around the tunnel which always gets the worst of things. Our days in Leadville were beautiful and warm (50’s) giving us a lot of snowmelt. Then just as we got into the car for the drive home the big one hit. White out conditions and ice. By the time we hit Dillon I-70 had been closed and there was no where to go. We had lunch and shopped around for a good 4 hours. Then sat in our car for another 30 minutes waiting for 70 to open up. Better then being stopped for metering on the highway in your car for hours. But, looking forward to summer traffic once again.
